Director of Cricket Tom Moody yesterday vowed to take Sri Lanka to the top end of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Team Rankings in all formats of the game.

The former Australian Test player made these observations during his maiden media conference since being hired last month by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), at the Taj Samudra Hotel in Colombo.

“With good people involved in the process we can take Sri Lanka cricket to the top end of the ICC Rankings in all formats of the game,” he stressed.

“It is not so much the people or the players but it’s the infrastructure that we have to review,” Moody added.

“It is very clear Sri Lanka cricket should reflect and review their game. With various experiences which I had here as a Head Coach of an international side as I progressed through that opportunity with a variety of different things, I am well equipped to deliver the requirement with the cricket committee to make some significant changes which will take some time,” Moody explained.

“If we can get the infrastructure right with correct people in their roles through the whole process I am sure we will find ourselves back where we need to be,” said Moody.

Meanwhile, Chairman, Technical Advisory Committee, Sri Lanka Cricket Aravinda de Silva said that the game would return to the glory days with the appointment of Tom Moody as Director of Cricket.

“We know that our National Team is going through a lean period but we are making all endeavours to put the game in line with a strategic plan.”

“Once that’s done the results will follow. We have a committee with Tom (Moody) closely working with SLC to revamp a proper system in all aspects of the game especially with the domestic cricketing structure, which is under discussion and will be implemented later with prior approvals.”

“We had a few discussions with Murali (Muralitharan) along with Sanga (Sangakkara) and Mahela (Jayawardene). We have prioritised the entire programme into three areas starting with the immediate requirement of a short term plan, medium and long term plan for the betterment of the game.”

“We have to do various amendments in domestic structure, starting up from the First-Class tournament structure, youth development and developing school cricket.”
