Late Minister Dissanayake remembered at book launch

Veteran author and sports journalist Sarath Jayasinghe launched his latest book titled ‘ODI Cricket History of Sri Lanka to commemorate the 79th Birth Anniversary of late Minister Gamini Dissanayake at the Sports Ministry Auditorium yesterday.

The Sri Lanka Cricket Foundation, with their Board of Trustees, jointly organised this book launch to commemorate late Gamini Dissanayaks’s 79th Birth Anniversary which falls today.

The book consists of six sections starting from late Dissanayake’s efforts towards gaining Test Cricket status and various other historic events regard to cricket in the country.

Navin Dissanayake the elder son of late Gamini Dissanayake graced the occasion with his younger brother Mayantha and sister Varuni Dissanayake.

In the absence of Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa, his mother Mrs. Shiranthi Rajapaksa graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

Minister Namal Rajapaksa who expressed his thoughts on Zoom, commended the services of late Minister Dissanayake for playing a major role in obtaining ICC status in 1981. (AN)
