Sokian CC Women’s team emerges ‘B’ division champions

Sokians CC Women’s team emerged champion in the inaugural CFSL Online Women Rapid Team Chess Championship 2021 organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka (CFSL) resumed its second level, Division B.

Altogether 120 players of 25 teams including the three teams selected from group ‘C’ battled it out to get license to category ‘A’ and clear their path to the throne. Top three teams according to the match points were selected to the category ‘A’.

From the initial round Sokians CC women were able to show their class. They won the first round against Fischer CC ‘C’ team while gaining three points. The Castle Siege CC, Giriulla CC, Fischer CC B team, Kriegspiel CC, Sokians CC girls and many teams were able to score two match points against their respective opponents.

Deyon Super CC and all Queens CC were highlighted in the second round with their clean sweeps against Emtoo-Esty and Mayor CC teams respectively. Meanwhile, Giriullla CC was able to protect their place by winning the round against Black Knight CC. Sokians CC Women, Castle Siege and Kriegspiel CC teams were able to defeat their respective opponents in the top half of the pairings.

Giriulla CC was able to maintain their winning spree by defeating strong Sokians CC Girls after a close battle. In the third round, Castle Siege CC was able to defeat Sokains CC Women's team with an advantage of one point. Also, other games in the top half ended in favor of Kriegspiel CC and Black Knights CC.

At the end of the fourth round, Giriulla CC, Castle Siege CC, Black Knights CC, Sokians CC Women’s and Sokians CC Girl’s teams placed in the top of the leader-board.

The leader-board was completely reshaped with the victories of Castle Siege- A and Black Knights CC against Giriulla CC and Kriegspiel CC respectively in the fifth round. Also, Sokians CC Women’s was able to drag Sokians CC Girls from the top quarter of the leader-board by winning the round with an advantage of a point.

In the sixth round, Black Knights CC was able to top the leader-board with the victory against Castle Siege ‘A’. Meanwhile the games of the second and third board were equally shared among Sokians CC Girl’s team, Giriulla CC, Kriegspiel and Fischer CC B team.

Sokians CC Girl’s team was able to climb to the top by defeating Black Knights CC. Fischer CC Girls ‘B’ team and Castle Siege CC ended the day obtaining second and third places respectively.

Second runner-up: Castle Siege Chess Club (Oneli Omaya Wilvalaarachchi, P. W. G. Gaveshi Wickramarathne, K. M. Dahamdi Sanudula, Y. W. Oneli Vihanga Weerawardana, Tharuli Vihasna Ranganath)
