
Sri Lanka youth cap, left hand batsman and right arm paceman Kavishka Lakshan Gamage performed well for St. Joseph’s College, Colombo in school cricket.
Lakshan is a promising all-rounder in the under-19 division one Inter Schools Cricket (Two day) Tournament who have also proved his talent in under 13, 15 and 17 seasons.
Lakshan was born on 9th January 2001 at Mahabage. He attended Karunarathna Buddhist College in 2006. He started school cricket under coach Dhammika Surendra in 2012.
He represented the school under 13 team in 2012 and 2013 seasons under coaches Madhawa Mihiran and Nilanka Asiri. He joined St. Joseph’s College Colombo in 2014. He represented St. Joseph’s under 13 team ‘A’ under the guidance Rev. Fr. Travis Gabriel, the Rector, Sanjeewa Fernando, Master In Charge and junior coach Anil Gunasinghe in the same year. He played only one match due to an injury.
He represented under 15 team in 2015 and 2016 seasons. He scored more than 300 runs with a century and two fifties and claimed 16 wickets. He scored 111 runs against St. Thomas’ College Kotte in the same season under the guidance of junior coach Anil Gunasinghe. He represented the Colombo District North team and Western Province North team in the Prima Champions Trophy under 15 inter district and inter provincial tournaments conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket in 2015 and 2016. He represented the Colombo North team under the district coach Luckey Rogers and represented Western Province North team under district coach P. Milton in 2015. He scored more than 300 runs with two fifties and claimed 18 wickets. He represented Colombo North team under coaches Carman Mapatuna and P. Milton and Western Province team under Tharaka Gunarathne in 2016.
Lakshan represented the college under 17 teams in two seasons in 2017 and 2018 under senior coach Roger Wijesuriya.
He scored over 300 runs with two fifties and claimed 22 wickets. He is a member of the champion Josephian team which won the under 17 division One tournament in 2018.
He scored more than 250 runs with a half century and claimed 18 wickets in the same season. He was adjudged the Man of the Final.
Lakshan represented the school 1st XI cricket team as a fresher in 2017/18. He represented the college under 19 team in three seasons 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2019/20. He scored more than 1600 runs and claimed 95 wickets in three seasons. He scored 803 runs with 7 fifties and claimed 51 wickets in the season 2017/18. He scored over 400 runs with two fifties and took 22 wickets in 2018/19 season. He represented St. Joseph’s champion team in consecutive seasons.
He scored a century and claimed 22 wickets in the season of 2019/20 under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Ranjith Andradi, Rector of the school and Niroshan Bandarathilake, senior coach. His best batting performances is 118 runs against Mahinda College Galle. St. Joseph’s Colombo advanced to the quarter final of under 19 division one Two-day tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.
Due to prevailing health situation (Covid-19) in the country, the SLSCA has decided to postpone ongoing under 19 all divisions tournament matches until further notice. (From March 15).
Lakshan played under 19 provincial tournaments for Dambulla and Western Province North in 2018 and 2019. He claimed 17 wickets in nine matches. He played three big matches against their arch rivals St. Peter’s College in Battle of the Saints 2018, 2019 and 2020.
He was adjudged the Best Bowler in the big match in 2018. He was also adjudged the Man of the Match in their limited over match in 2019.
He represented Sri Lanka under 19 against Bangladesh under 19 and Sri Lanka, West Indies and England tri-nation series in 2019 under Sri Lanka Youth coaches Hashan Thilakarathne, Chaminda Vaas, Upul Chandana, Sachith Pathirana and Chamila Gamage.
