Sri Lanka Cricket chairman Shammi Silva opened a new state of the art Indoor Cricket Complex named Grand Park Arena in Piliyandala on Wednesday.

Officials from the Ministry of Sports, Sri Lanka Cricket, Sports Directors of the Tri Forces, Media and other sport dignitaries also participated in the opening ceremony.

This private venture fully owned by Eran Ranasinghe will eventually see Grand Park Arena complete its other planned facilities such as a badminton court, gymnasium and a swimming pool in stages.

Ranasinghe, an old boy of S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia and an ardent lover of sports said “Sport has always been an integral part of Sri Lanka’s culture and it is important that we support the younger generation in any way we could. Sport has also been a great aspect, where even strong bonds of friendships are built. Whilst keeping these objectives in mind, we have ventured out to build this facility. Many people within and around the areas of Piliyandala could take advantage of such a facility,” oncluded Ranasinghe.
