Twenty year old Chalith Kaveesha Senaratne, an old boy of Dharmaraja College, Kandy who is awaiting admission to the University is an outstanding athlete who started athletics in the year 2014 under the coaching of the PTI of the School D.M.Gunapala and after one year of hard training he won the 1500 Metre Race at the School Sports Meet in 2015. In the following year too he repeated the same performance at the same event i.e. 1500 Metres at the School Sports Meet and after some time he took part in the Zonal Athletic Meet in 2015 and secured the third place in the 1500 Metres. Race in the Under 15 age category.
Half way of his Athletic career Kaveesha met another Athletic Coach, Chandana Abeyratne who joined the School and under his instructions Kaveesha changed his running events from 1500 Metres to short distance races like 100, 200 and 400 Metres and met with instant success to win all three races at the National Youth Festival Divisional Meet in Gangawata Korale in the year 2018 establishing a Meet Record of 10.9 seconds in the 100 metres event. In the same year he secured the first place in 100 Metres and second place in 200 Metres races at the Zonal Meet organized by the Department of Education.
In 2019 he won the 200 Metre Race establishing a new Meet record of 22.5 Seconds and in the 400 Metre race he came first timing 49.4 seconds running on a grass track. He was adjudged the Best Athlete of the Meet at that Sports Meet. At the Junior National Athletic Meet he was unsuccessful as he finished in the fourth place in the 400 Metres. event and he is of the opinion that he was unable to practice due to his studies for the G.C.E.(A/L) examination in the Science Stream.
Kaveesha is determined to do well in future as he is continuing with his practices and his Coach Chandana Abeyratne is encouraging him at all times. His ambition is to do higher studies and become a Pilot and continue his Athletic career.
