
,Jadi Dissanayake , is a former Trinity College, Kandy Sports Club and Up Country ruggerite, who most often played as a wing-three-quarter but was also versatile enough to play flanker or even lock. His tackling and ball handling was arguably his greatest asset.
He first played for Trinity College team in 1966, under Glen Vanlangenberg and was in and out of the team that year and in the following year 1967 played for the school under the leadership of Ajith Abeyratne. He began his rugby, at Trinity College and was considered by many as a fine rugby player He had the running and kicking skills which made him extremely mobile and agile as a forward.
After his school career he joined Kandy Sports Club as a wing three quarter and later played as a wing forward. . He played as a blind side wing forward. From Kandy Sports Club he crossed over to Kandy Lake Club in 1974, and that is the year this club amalgamated with Kandy Sports club and played for many years He was in the 1969 Clifford Cup final side, where the side led by Denzil Kobbekduwa lost to CR& FC 6-12. They entered a cup final after 14 years and the side consisted of players like Y.C.Chang, Mohan Balasuriya, Gavin Stevens, Rohan Abeyasundara, Dr. D. Makuloluwa, Deepal de Zoysa, Jadi Dissanayake,Gamini Udugama, Denzil Kobbekduwa, Jayantissa Ratwattte, Lakshman Samaravijaya,Sam Samarasekara, Chang Faa Ching, George Jayasenaa, Shafie Jainu Deen ,Reserves Iswan Omar who was side lined with Fredrick Prins both were injured in the semi-final game.
One of the most skilful forwards to have played for the Kandy Sports Club and one of the most versatile and durable, Jadi had the honour of captaining the Kandy Sports Club in 1976 in the league and knock-outs and gave his best . With years of good rugby behind him, he gave a big hand to the Nittawela club and also played for Up-Country.
After his retirement he started coaching,and helped Dhamraraja College in the years 1978 and 79. He also served in the Kandy Sports Club Committee, and did his best for the club. Now he is living in at Kurunagala where he was born.
