Seventeen year old second year player, top order left hand bat, left arm medium pace opening bowler, ruggerite and athlete Menik Arachchige Himasha Sasmitha Sathsara has brought honour and fame to his Alma Mater National School Dehiowita with his deeds on the sports field
His parents M. A. Vijithasiri and K. D. Dhammika admitted their son to the Buddhist Primary School Dehiowita in 2008. The Principal was Rohana Gamage and his first class teacher was Mrs. Premalatha.
When he was in Grade Five at the Divisional and Zonal Meets in the under ten age group he came first in 75 and 100 metres and in the Provincial Meet he won 75 metres event with a Record timing of 11.4 seconds.
In 2013 he shifted to National School Dehiowita and in 2014 he swept the board in 100 metres, 200 metres and 100x4 Relay Event. His team won the Divisional Meet and he came second in 100, 200 and 100x4 Relay Events. In the School Sports Meet in 2016 he was the under 14 Champion winning Long Jump 100 and 400 metres and in the Divisional Meet he came second in 400 metres and third in Long Jump. In 2017 too he was adjudged under 16 School Athletic Champion winning 100, 400 and Long Jump and in the Divisional meet too he won the Long Jump and 200 metres and in the Zonal meet also he came first in 2018. Also he was the school champion by winning 100, 400 and Long Jump events and in under 18 Divisional meet he was second in 400 metres and third in Long Jump and his coach and Master in Charge was F. Ranaweera.
When he was under eleven he came under A. Priyantha and D. Marasinghe the coach and Master in Charge respectively in rugger and he was appointed as the Captain and in the Provincial tournament they were the Runner Up in the Plate Trophy and in 2014 he captained the under 13 team and they were Runners Up in the All Island Bowl Trophy and Semi Finalist in the Cup Championship. In 2016 they couldn’t come up to expectations in the under 15 tournaments.
In 2017 he was the Captain and in the All Island tournament they were the Plate Runners Up and in under 18 too leading the team they were the Bowl Runners Up and he was awarded school colours.
In 2015 he commenced cricket under Vinosh Harshan and in the under 15 tournament leading the team he scored a century and three fifties and claimed 14 scalps and got selected to the Kegalle District Team and in 2016 he played in three matches in the under 17 and in 2017 he Captained the team and in 2018 playing in the under 19 team he got a fifty and played in the Big Match and a Limited Over Match with their arch rivals Siriwardene Maha Vidyalaya Yatiyantota and they beat them in both these formats and he was adjudged the Best Player and won school colours in 2019 and their Master in Charge was Asanka Godagampola.
