Girls’ High School has produced top netball players

Girls’ High School, Kandy is celebrating the 143rd year Anniversary this year and the School is doing very well in the Academic and Sports Fields under the Principal, Malkanthi Abeygunasekera. The school has close upon 5000 students in all.

Most of the Students are involved in Sports and they have produced outstanding netball players in the last two decades under the coaching of Swini de Alwis, outstanding sportswoman of Kandy District who is also a former Sri Lanka Women’s Cricketer. The Prefect of Games is Thanuja Gunasinghe, former outstanding Athlete produced by Seevali Maha Vidyalaya, Ratnapura.

One of the outstanding Netball players is Maheesha Bandara who represented Sri Lanka under 16 Netball team at the first South Asian Under 16 Netball Championship in 2019 held at Kathmandu, Nepal. Venuki Boyagoda is another member who represented the Sri Lanka Schools Netball team at the Waverley International Netball Championship held at Melbourne, Australia in 2019 and obtained seventh place.

Faika Feroze is another outstanding member who represented the Champion Central Province Netball team at the National Sports championship in 2019 and Yohani Nilupuli de Silva represented Sri Lanka Schools Netball team at the Waverley International School Netball tournament in 2018. All these girls of the Girls’ High School,Kandy were outstanding players of the School Netball team and they were coached by Swini de Alwis who was also an outstanding Netball player of the Girls’ High School, Kandy for the last 20 years.
