Chathurya, Thehan win Men’s Doubles Title

Teenagers, Chathurya Nilaweera and Thehan Wejemanna created a major upset when they clinched the Men’s Doubles title at the Sri Lanka National Tennis Championships, worked off at the SLTA Courts in Green Path yesterday.

Chathurya (16) and Thehan (17) came from behind with a magnificent performance to beat the more experienced pair of Sankha Athukorala and Yashita de Silva 3-6, 6-3, 10-5 in the final encounter.

Meanwhile, the combination of Janali Manamperi and Savini Jayasuriya took the Women’s Doubles title while overcoming the favourites, Anika Seneviratne and Alana Seneviratne 6-3, 3-6, 10-4. (A.N.)
