Former Vidyartha College sportsman and cricket lover C.B. Ratnayake who was one time Sports Minister and present Wildlife and Forest Conservation Minister was elected as president of the Nuwara Eliya District Cricket Association at the AGM held last Saturday at the Brita’s Garden Hotel at Ginigathhena,
C.B. Ratnayake is a great follower of the game, who gave a big hand for sports when he was the minister and is sure to give his best and bring back the game to its former position with the backing of the committee, The secretary elected Jagath Jayasundera is also an experienced guy and has been holding this post for some time and given his best. C.B. is sure to give his fullest backing to promote the game. He is keen to support cricket in every possible way and take Nuwara Eliya cricket to a new level.
Nuwara Eliya District Cricket Association has given a big hand for the game, and their main tournament was the annual six-a-side inter-club cricket tournament for the C B Ratnayake trophy Some of the clubs which gave a big hand for Nuwara Eliya District Cricket Association were Dimbula C and AC, Dickoya Maskeliya CC, Tea Research Institute Talawakelle, Maskeliya CC, Trout SC, Nuwara Eliya Police SC,Municipal SC, Nuwara Eliya, Yardley SC, Grand Hotel SC, Kent SC, Summer Hill SC,Jayashakthi SC, Hanguranketha SC, Silver Orchids SC, Ginigathena SC and Young Rovers SC.

It was nice to see the presence of Sarath Ekanayake, Janaka Pathirana the President and the secretary respectively of the Central Province Cricket Association and Sujeewa Godaliyedda a member of the Sri Lanka cricket as observers.
