Akhen a cricket star in the making

12 year old D.D.Akhen de Alwis, student of St.Joseph’s College Nugegoda is an outstanding cricketer. Presently Akhen is the Vice Captain of the under 13 Cricket team of the College and is a promising all rounder. As a left hand front line batsman, he scored 97 against Homagama Central College, 77 against Sri Sumangala, Panadura, 67 against Nakano International College,Panadura and 35 against Lyceum International School, Nugegoda.

As a right arm leg spinner, Akhen has shown his talent by claiming 7 wickets for 15 against Rahula College,Matara, 5 for 5 runs against Homagama Central, 5 for 20 against Christian College, Pannipitiya and 4 for 30 against Lalith Athulathmudali College. He is a fine close-in fielder who has taken 10 catches in the series.

Akhen gained more experience when he joined the SSC School of Cricket under Carlton Bernadus and his grandfather, D.D.P.Alwis who is also a Cricket Coach there. D.D.P.Alwis played Cricket for Dharmaraja College,Kandy and Adastrians Akhen has represented the SSC School of Cricket in five Cricket Carnivals and gained more experience. His highest score was 80 runs against Colombo Cricket Club. He scored 67 against Panadura CC and 30 runs against Sanath Jayasuriya School of Cricket. In bowling his best achievement is claiming 5 for 62 against the Youth International School His father Malshan De Alwis was a former Cricketer of D.S.Senanayake Vidyalaya,Colombo who also played club cricket for Wattala Antonians in the Premier League.
