Kandy District Cricket Tourney in full swing

The Kandy District Cricket Association inter- club cricket tournament is in full swing with a total of 30 teams participating. Up to date out of seventy games, forty one games have been played with some stunning upsets as well as close matches. The tournament is played in the One Day format.

Out of the games results of thirty eight games were published. Kandy District Cricket Associaiton with their excellent performances in organizing matches have identified good players in the city through these matches, based on performance some of the outstanding cricketers have been spotted.

In the 38th game Prisons Sports Club beat University Staff C.A by 5 wickets. Prison Sports Club won the toss and elected to field first. and bowled out University Staff C.A. for 88 in 27 over’s A. Rajapaksha 30 not out. M. Gomez 3 for 14 and M. Herath 3 for 27. In reply Prison Sports Club made 89 for 5 in 31.4 overs M. Gomez 39 not out. U. Prathapasinghe 2 for 12

In the 39th game Kandy Academy Sports Club beat Blue Universal Sports Club by 49 runs at the Pallkelle Prisons grounds. Blue Universal won the toss and elected to field first and Kandy Academy Sports Club were able to score 194 for 9 in 50 overs P. Kumara 53, D. Costa 36 not out. B. Prasad 3 for 30 and A. Mahesh 2 for 25. In reply Blue Universal Sports Club made 145 all out in 33 overs. A. Khan 31 C. Heshan 3 for 02 and D. Madushanka 2 for 10

In the 40th game Ekamuthu Sports Club beat Galagedera Cricket Club by 45 runs at the Pallekele Prisons grounds in a group D game. Galagedara Cricket Club won the toss and elected to field first, and Ekamuthu S.C. went on to score 177 runs losing all the wickets in 34.5 overs. D. Madushanka 37 N. Priyadarahana 26 were the top scorers and the bowlers who did well were S. Aramapth 3 for 24 and T. Weerasinghe 2 for 28. Galagedara Cricket Club in reply were able to score 132 runs for ten wickets in 36.4 overs. The batsmen who did well were T. Weerasinghe 42 and R. Dassanayake 29. Then in bowling J. Kavinda bowled well to take 6 for 26 and U. Danesh 2 for 19.

Then in the 41st game University Cricket Club beat Old Rajans Sports Club by 36 runs at Lake View grounds. In this game Old Rajans Sports Club won the toss and invited the opponents to take the first turn of the wicket. University Cricket Club gave a good batting display and went on to score 199 runs in 46 overs. L. Rathnayake made a solid 72 and P. Dilshan 42. P. Rathnayake took 4 for 13 and C. Nishantha 2 for 38. Old Rajans Sports Club were all out for 163 in 42.1 overs. M. Wijekoon 62, J. Gunatunga 57. M. Karavita 3 for 22 and M. Rizan 3 for 26
