Zahra crowned under 14 swimming champion of Gateway, Negombo

Zahra Maharoof excelled by bagging two gold medals and a silver to be crowned under 14 champion at the Inter-House Swimming Meet of Gateway College, Negombo held on September 4, (Friday) in Negombo.

She has been the champion swimmer for the past three years and was also selected to represent her school in the Novices Age Group Swimming Championship in her pet breaststroke event. She won the individual gold medal in the 50 metre breaststroke and 50m backstroke events, and silver medal in the 50m freestyle.

Making it a family affair, her brother Aqil claimed a silver medal in the under 16 50m freestyle event.

Zahra’s cousin sister Hanna Samsudeen also excelled in the meet winning a gold medal in the 4x50m relay event and three bronze medals in the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly events.

In other results, Faiq Mauroof competing in the under 14 category won two silver medals in the 50m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle in addition to a bronze in the 4x50m relay event.

Alisha Rushdy won a couple of gold medals in the 4x50m relay and 50m Butterfly event.
