Matara district athletic Colours Awards on Sept. 12

The Matara district athletic colours awards ceremony conducted by the Matara District Athletic Association will be held on September 12 at the Grand Navro Hall Beach road, Matara, commencing from 5 pm. Altogether 39 school athletes will receive colours and 21 of them are from open events. Meanwhile, 47 junior athletes are to receive colours as well.

The special merit awards will be given to the Asian high jump medal winner Manjula Kumara Wijesekara, South Asian silver medal winners Tharanga Vinodini, Safreen Ahamad, Asian cross country medal winner Hsanthi Madumali from Sujatha Vidyalaya, Matara.

The organisers also hope to felicitate senior coaches Nihal Abeywickrama and D.S.K. Gamage with presenting merit awards while special merit awards will be given to National athletic coach Y.K Kularatne, Ruhunu University senior sport consultant K.H Keerthi Kumara and Matara district athletic coach Lal Abeywickrama.

Former Southern Province Sports Director Felicia Jayawardena and Director General of the Sports Medical Institute Dr. Lal Ekanayake are also among the special merit awards recipients. The Minister of Power Dullas Alahapperuma will be the chief guest on this colours awards ceremony while Matara district MP Karunadasa Kodituwakku and Sri Lanka Athletics President Major General Palitha Fernando and Former Athletic President Sunil Jayaweera will grace this occasion as special guests.
