Tourism Ministry to sponsor Dilantha Malagamuwa

Sri Lanka Tourism on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka has come forward to support world renowned racing champion Dilantha Malagamuwa. This was a red letter day for Malagamuwa. Ministry of Tourism headed by the Minister Prasanna Ranathunga in a remarkable gesture to strengthen the motor racing career of a champion driver who has proudly represented the country for over 36 years.

Malagamuwa the much loved Sri Lanka motor racing icon who was recently appointed a committee member of the National Sports Council met the Prime Minister on Wednesday at Temple Trees to formally inform him of his participation at the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe Championship 2020, which is to be held from 5th of September to 15th of November across Germany, Belgium, France and Spain.

The Prime Minister Rajapaksa gave his blessings to motor racing champion Malagamuwa as he sets out to bring glory to Sri Lanka as he has done repeatedly. Actually this was a historic moment and for the first time the Government has come forward to sponsor Malagamuwa through the Ministry of Tourism. Malagamuwa always represented Sri Lanka with displaying the National flag in his car but even the Sports Ministry also did not extent support earlier to this Motor Racing champion.

On this occasion Dilantha Malagamuwa further said I’m humbled by the love and admiration I have received from Sri Lankans living across the world as I have always taken pride in representing Sri Lanka in my sport.

This year is special with Sri Lanka Tourism coming on board and I must mention President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and especially Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga for identifying and bridging the gap between Tourism and Sports that has existed for decades.

The Minister of Sports Namal Rajapaksa also graced the occasion along with Secretary to the Prime Minister Gamini Senarath. Dumidu Thabrew and Aruna Warushahennedige - Consultants to.

Malagamuwa from Mentor Helsingor (Private) Limited and Dulinda Perera also accompanied Malagamuwa on this occasion at Temple Trees.
