Brian Bolus, the England batsman who went on to become a Test selector, has died at the age of 86.
Bolus won all seven of his caps in the space of eight months in 1963 and 1964, hitting the first ball he faced in Test cricket – from legendary West Indies fast bowler Wes Hall – for four.
He reached double figures in all 12 of his Test innings, still a world record, with a best of 88 against India in Madras.
He was later part of Ray Illingworth’s panel of England selectors, and a president of Nottinghamshire, one of three counties he represented along with Yorkshire and Derbyshire while scoring over 25,000 first-class runs.
