Sri Lanka batsman Lahiru Thirimanne who was left out of the Test squad named for the two-Test series against England starting next week in Galle has been picked to lead the Sri Lanka Cricket President’s XI team in the four-day warm-up match against the tourists starting today at the P Sara Oval.
A 15-member squad was selected for the match but Bhanuka Rajapaksa has sustained an injury and will not be available for selection.
The selectors will be having a close look at spinners Ramesh Mendis (off-spinner) and 18-year-old right-arm leg-spinner Kavindu Nadeeshan who recently took part in the Under 19 World Cup in South Africa, as a replacement in the Test squad for the injured Wanindu Hasaranga.
