Treating onlookers to an electrifying game, Eshan Pieris clinched the Asia Max Challenge Round 3 held at the Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia in the DD2 senior category in June. Eshan performed this feat following a three month break from Karting after he won the Round 1 of the Rotax Max Asia Challenge in the same category. With his eyes on Formula 3, Eshan is at the moment preparing for the Formula 3 Asia Race in Suzuka, Japan with guidance from his coach and manager Aaron Lim.
Eshan started this race by qualifying in 5th place in a 20-strong grid field and went on the finish heat 1 in 2nd place with the fastest lap. In Heat 2 he could not avoid an accident at the start and had to retire. Starting in 10th place in the Pre final, Eshan drove brilliantly with skilled overtaking moves to finish with 2nd place starting position for the final. In the final it only took a couple of laps before he overtook Amer Harris of DRM Motorsports to win by a comfortable margin..
Eshan honed his skills in Sri Lanka at the Sri Lanka Karting Circuit Bandaragama (SLKC) before venturing into the Asian kart racing circuit.
With more young racing enthusiasts having access to an internationally certified karting circuit, recognized as the finest circuit in Asia and one of the best in the world, more Formula drivers emerging from Sri Lanka is no longer a pipe dream.
Eshan, the brand ambassador for David Pieris Racing & Leisure (Pvt) Ltd (DPRL), a part of David Pieris Group of Companies which owns and manages the Sri Lanka Karting Circuit (SLKC) which is the only international karting track in Sri Lanka.
