
The Dialog Rugby Club 7’s is poised to produce some red-hot clashes on the opening day at Racecourse Stadium in Reid Avenue as the leading contenders face-off in the pool matches today in their bid to qualify for the Cup competition on Sunday.
CH and FC ‘A’ led by Rohitha Rajapakse kick-off the two-day competition, when they take on Peterson RFC at 9.20 am but will face their toughest hurdle Havelocks captained by Mithun Hapugoda in a key group A clash at 3.20 p.m. Air Force ‘A’ led by Ishara Madushan will face a determined CR and FC captained by Sri Lanka star Reza Rafaideen in a crucial group B clash at 4.20 pm.
Favourites Kandy SC led by Nigel Ratwatte will come out all guns blazing against Navy ‘A’ captained by Richie Dharmapala in a decisive group C match at 5.00 p.m. Army ‘A’ led by Sri Lanka fly half Ashan Bandara will face-off Police ‘A’ captained by Iroshan Silva to round off the first day’s schedule of 24 matches.
CH & FC, Navy SC, Police SC, Air Force FC, Army SC will play A and B teams, while CR & FC, Kandy SC, Havelock SC, Peterson SC, Galle RFC and Malay CC will complete the line-up of 16 teams divided into four groups.
The final day’s play of the Dialog Rugby Club 7’s will go LIVE on Sri Lanka’s pay TV provider, Dialog Television, on channel number 77 and sports hub ThePapare.com, as the teams battle for the Cup, Plate, Bowl and Shield. In last year’s Dialog Rugby Club 7’s, CH and FC emerged overall champions after two legs of competition won by Kandy SC and CR & FC.
