SLC conducts ICC Level 1 Coaching Program

Sri Lanka Cricket conducted two programs in ICC Level 1 Coaching Course in the recent weeks for nearly 50 schools and club level coaches; who came from several parts of the country.

Conducted by the Coach Education Unit of the SLC, the first of it was held from 22 to 25 January at the SLC High Performance Center at RPICS, while the second program was held from 30 January to 2 February, in the District of Ampara.

The Colombo program had coaches from areas such as Panadura, Kalutara; Matugama and Moratuwa, while the 2nd program had coaches from Ampara, Batticaloa and Trincomalee districts. The ICC Level 1 Course focuses on imparting coaches with knowledge in the areas of fast bowling and spin bowling, fielding and wicket keeping, knowledge of umpire signals and also warm-up and warm down techniques.

In addition, it also educates on the ‘Role of a Coach,’ ‘Code of Behavior for Coaches,’ ‘How to Prepare,’ and also ‘Communication between Coaches and Players’.

The participants will be given certificates following a 3-month assessment period, where SLC will monitor how the coaches use the learned techniques practically during coaching sessions.

The program was conducted by Heshan de Mel, Head of Coach Education Unit of SLC, Chamila Gamage; Tharaka Samaratunga, who are Coach Educators and also District Coach Wasantha Wijesuriya.
