Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers emerged overall champions to take the Challenge Trophy for Champion Regiment obtaining 294 points at the 55th Army Athletic Championship concluded at Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.
Prasad Wimalasiri was awarded the Inter Regiment Challenge Trophy for most outstanding Track and Field athlete of the year for his best performance in the long jump.
The Inter Regiment Challenge Trophy for most outstanding performance (Men) was awarded to junior sprinter Aruna Dharshana for establishing a new meet record in the 400m.
Aruna Darshana clocked a personal best and new Sri Lanka junior record of 45.78 seconds when he beat Kalinga Kumarage to win the 400m – the best time achieved by a Sri Lankan in the event since 2005.
The Inter Regiment Challenge Trophy for most outstanding performance (Women) was won by triple jumper Vidusha Lakshani who finished the season on a high with a leap of 13.36 metres.
Overall two Sri Lankan records were established along with 12 meet records - (KR)
