
Sri Lanka Netball team maintained their unbeaten run and advanced to the semifinals of the Asian Netball Championship played at OCBC arena in Singapore yesterday.
Lady Lions secured their fourth victory when they beat defending champions Malaysia 62-59 in the Cup champions group.
First quarter saw a close battle but due to some passing errors Malaysia won 15-13. Sri Lanka got into action and sealed the victory in the second quarter scoring 19-12.
It was end-to-end exchanges in the early part of the third quarter however, height became a huge advantage as any missed shots from Malaysia were collected by the Sri Lankan defenders for their shooters to finish the play and stretch the quarter score to 16-15. Final quarter was wan by Malaysia 17-14.
Sri Lanka coach Thilaka Jindadasa was immensely proud of her team’s performance and remarked: “It was must win game for the players on both teams.
"I think our experience helped a lot but we also played a good game. Malaysia was our biggest competitor and we are excited to overcome them."
"We have a better advantage with the shooting. So we worked on our passes to Tharjini - that was our game plan".
So far Sri Lanka has defeated Chinese Taipei and India in the first round of the game while won the matches against host Singapore and Malaysia in the Cup champions fixtures.
