
Two day Cricket Coaching Camp, headed by Asanka Gurusinghe, former test Cricketer and the Chief Cricket Operations Officer of Sri Lanka Cricket and initiated by Heshan de Mel, head of the Education Unit of Sri Lanka Cricket was held on August 28 and 29 at Pallekelle Internatioal Cricket Stadium.
Sarath Ekanayake,The Chief Minister of Central Province and President of the Central Province Cricket Association was the chief guest at the opening ceremony. Seventy Five Level I cricket coaches from Kandy, Matale and Nuwara Eliya Districts attended the event. Amila Pinnaduwa, District Cricket Coach coordinated the event.
Dharshana Weerasinghe and Dilshan Fonseka of Sri Lanka Cricket spoke on how to maintain fitness and keep nutrition level high. Avishka Gunawardena, coach of the Sri Lanka ‘A’ team spoke on batting theory and Sumithra Warnakulasuriya and Jehan Mubarak demonstrated the practicals in batting. Piyal Wijetunge, National Spin bowling coach demonstrated spin bowling and Nuwan Seneviratne and Lanka de Silva showed the skills in fielding. Asanka Gurusinghe spoke on anti-doping. Ranjith Nanayakkara spoke on Prevention of injuries and wicket keeping practicals were demonstrated by Lanka De Silva. Theory with regard to fast bowling was demonstrated by Ravindra Pushpakumara, head of fast bowling cricket Academy. Practicals of fast bowling was demonstrated by Chamila Gamage of Coach Education Unit. Coaching Principles were discussed by Heshan De Mel, the head of Coach Education Unit.
The Coaches who attended this Coaching Camp were presented with Certificates by Amila Pinnaduwa, the District Cricket Coach. Janaka Pathirana, the Secretary of the Central Province Cricket Association assisted in this programme.
