Top teams Colombo, Dambulla maintain form

Sri Lanka one-day opener Upul Tharanga continued his excellent form in the ongoing Sri Lanka Cricket T20 league when he hit a compelling 81 off 41 balls (8 fours, 5 sixes) to steer Colombo to a convincing seven wickets win over Galle at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium yesterday.

Akila Dananjaya with 3 for 28 restricted Galle to 131-8 in 20 overs and Colombo buoyed by Tharanga’s knock sailed towards their target with four overs to spare.

In the second game Dambulla rode on openers Danushka Gunathilaka (87 off 54 balls, 14 fours, 1 six) and Ramith Rambukwella’s (38 off 24 balls) partnership of 85 off 7.5 overs to post an imposing total of 217-4 and beat Kandy by six runs. Kandy boosted by Dasun Shanaka’s knock of 81 off 46 balls (5 sixes, 5 fours) kept up the run chase till the very end but fell short by seven runs.

* Colombo beat Galle by 7 wickets.

Galle 131-8 in 20 overs (Kusal Mendis 36, Dhananjaya de Silva 44, Akila Dananjaya 3/28)

Colombo 134-3 in 16 overs (Upul Tharanga 81, Dinesh Chandimal 38 n.o., Kasun Rajitha 2/36)

* Dambulla beat Kandy by 6 runs.

Kandy 211-7 in 20 overs (Dasun Shanaka 81, Charith Asalanka 43, Nisala Tharaka 34 n.o., Dilruwan Perera 2/20, Shehan Madushanka 2/45)
