In the wake of match fixing allegations in one of the Galle Test matches that shocked the cricket world a few months ago, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has removed Godfrey Dabrera from his post of being in overall charge of international venues in Sri Lanka it is learnt.
In May this year, Al Jazeera aired a documentary, showing Sri Lanka’s domestic former players attempting to fix a match at Galle. “The International Cricket Council (ICC) has had some reservations about Godfrey. Top ICC officials spoke to him over certain things and after that competent authority Kamal Padmasiri took the decision to remove him from his post,” a cricket official said.
Godfrey, the president of Chilaw Marians Cricket Club, is considered to be a close associate of former SLC president Thilanga Sumathipala.
