Dr. Gerard Nimal Lucas was the sole participant from Sri Lanka at the Forza International Veterans Cup Table Tennis Tournament held at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Taleigao, Goa, India from 2nd to 6th December 2017.
Playing in the over-70 Men’s Team Event, Dr. Lucas, partnered by 2 Indian Players (Dr. Sainath Iyer and Najmi Kinkhabwala) won Gold Medals. In the Team Event Dr. Lucas was unbeaten in both the Singles and Doubles (partner Najmi Kinkhabwala).
In the over-70 Men’s Singles Event, Dr. Lucas reached the final and lost to a Russian Player, Zakris Khandadia in an enthralling five setter, the final scores being 11-7, 13-11, 7-11, 6-11, 11-13. In the Singles Events, instead of medals, trophies were awarded.
