M K Thilina Madhushanka, a grade 10 student of Miriswatte National School in the Dodangoda Educational Division of the Kalutara Educational Zone is an outstanding cricketer who has brought many victories and honour and fame to Miriswatte Maha Vidyalaya.
Thilina Madhushanka played his debut tournament match – under 15, Div III, against Bandaragama National School and his team scored 164 runs in the first innings.
In that match, Bandaragama National School’s (BNS) Kavinda Tharuka 65, Thilanka Malshan 33 (n/o) and Yosith Malinda 17 excelled.
In bowling, Thilina Madhushanka from Miriswatte NS claimed 5 wickets for 41 runs, Kavinda Malshan 5 wks for 41 and Anju Arose 2 wickets for 28 runs.
Here, the most important fact is that Miriswatte NS team was victorious due to their scoring of 333 runs for 6 wickets in the second innings. M K Thilina Madhushanka played a leading role here as opening, batsman by scoring 171 runs, Nethina Dilshan 44, Anju Arose 43 and Kavindu Imantha 41 (n/o) also shone for Miriswatte NS.
Bandaragama NS team’s Bimsara Ranawaka claimed 4 wickets for 110 runs.
Thilina Madhushanka is also a very talented athlete, says his coach K D Nalaka Manjula. Thilina, at the recently held school sportsmeet, became a House Athletic Champion, following three victories in running events, for the Dodangoda Division. He participated in the 200 m – U15 at the Western Province Inter School Athletics Competitions.
Thilina’s very first cricket coach and the sports teacher was Chrishantha Fonseka who guided Thilina by making a lot of sacrifices.
Thilina Madhushanka’s present cricket coach Nalaka Manjula has a lot of hopes and expectations in Thilina’s potential and capabilities.
