Sri Lanka very tough to beat in ICC events – Donald

Allan Donald looking forward to working with Lasith Malinga (pictured).

I know I got a very short stint to try and make an impact. For me it’s trying to empower guys to make decisions for themselves.

It is the time I see the senior players play their best, your very best batters and bowlers they come to the fore, it gets the best out of them obviously backed up by the rest of the group.

It’s a super exciting event in the UK and conditions will be very challenging especially in the start of June, but that is all part and parcel of unpacking the final product.

Sri Lanka built their reputation with the white ball over many, many years and won a World Cup in 1996. I was at the wrong end of the stick in 1992 in New Zealand when Sri Lanka beat us there.

Sri Lanka have always shown at ICC events that they are very tough to beat and I expect nothing less from this group of people to show their mettle. (Lasith) Malinga is massive and he has shown that he is the go-to man for Sri Lanka for so many years. He’s been the man who has closed so many games across the world. A lot has been spoken about his fitness and can he bowl 10 overs.

I certainly think that if we can get 7 or 8 overs out of him in important stages of the game he is going to be the factor, there’s no doubt about that.

I think he is hungry he wants to play for Sri Lanka again he missed that very much so I look forward to working with him for the first time. It’s good that he is back. – ICC Cricket 360
